What is “love” ... Is it an emotion or an experience, does it have limitations and boundaries, is it a cognitive social phenomenon influenced by our hormones, or is it simply just considered a palatable facade used as a survival tool to fit in with society's expectations? Love may be the most complicated word to describe in our vocabulary; to express the deepest interpersonal affection you have for someone or something is extremely difficult, but the young and talented Alyx Rush does just that with his breakthrough single Runaway.
Alex Duncan (better known for his stage name Alyx Rush) is a 24 year old singer/ musician/ songwriter/ artist from Eldridge, IA  (southeast Iowa). He teams up with Young Creatives to release his first visual and single Runaway, to help jump start his promising career. This partnership makes sense, as Young Creatives have been credited for reinvigorating the visual arts scene the last couple of years and giving birth to new ideas and platforms in the local music scene.

For not showing too much emotion, it’s easy to see why Alyx Rush pours so much of his into his art and I think the visual for Runaway depicts the organized chaos in the way he intended it to as he stated, “The video/song concept is basically capturing the  feeling of being in love and escaping to a reality in which you can both be carefree together. Nothing else matters.” The video has a deep emotional connection starting off with Alyx in formation, before quickly transitioning to two dancers who come face to face as if they have been waiting helplessly to profess their love for each other, before moving to him riding carefree in a drop top, escorted by men in orange ski masks through a forestry neighborhood.
Every scene was carefully constructed to symbolically customize a feeling to each emotion of events throughout the video. The actors in paint are a representation of the connecting of their souls and each of their colors blending and mixing. At first, they are bare (of paint), feeling each other out to make sure they are comfortable and compatible with each other's soul. After they are accepting of each other, their body’s touch and share their own unique paint as if the rights of passage to allow each other's love. The cruising scenes are symbolic of the feeling of being happy and free, free from worry and fear as long as you can share it with the one you love most. And the underwater scenes represent the feeling of drowning in reality outside of the dreamy world you both created with each other, as if to be separated from the life you two created, wouldn't be much of a life at all.

Fun Facts:

  • The two models in the video Chelsea and Larry were barely able to move their feet during the sense that they shot because all of the sheets on the floor to catch the paint, but even with incredibly limited space, and because that they clicked easily, they were able to perform to excellence.
  • One of the guys in the orange ski masks are actually from the production crew.. Can you tell who??

What’s Next?

Alyx Rush has a lot on his plate making 2020 the manifestation as an artist. “I’m super excited to drop the next single in the queue, it's going to be more upbeat/engaging and I believe we're going to have another video come into play as well as others! I really want to work more on collaborations with other artists locally and around the globe, so if anyone is trying to collaborate, I’m open! Like I said, I’m planning on a larger scale project later on in the year or maybe the beginning of next year but nothing is written in stone yet. My management and I are very big on strategy and “right time”. I’m extremely pumped for what I’ve got coming though!”

Young Creatives have been putting in major work as they have begun to do international work across seas filming their latest movie. You can expect a batting lineup of release they will be putting out including: The Thumper video, Isaac Burris video, 3 films (Mob Squad, Bloodrose Autumn, and Olivia).
